a united nations committee recommends granting special consultative status to the organization

In June 2017, the United Nations Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), officially recommended granting Special Consultative Status to United by schools (then operating under the name Hope for Education).

This committee, composed of 19 Member States representing all regions of the world based on equitable geographic distribution, reviews each year the applications of non-governmental organizations seeking to collaborate with the United Nations.

After examining United by Schools’ application, the committee recognized the relevance and credibility of its fieldworkin the areas of bullying prevention and the promotion of positive school climates.

This recommendation represented a decisive milestone toward the association’s international recognition and educational expertise, paving the way for the final approval of Special Consultative Status by the Economic and Social Council just a few weeks later.
