United by schools took part in the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), held at the United Nations Office in Vienna, one of the main intergovernmental bodies responsible for shaping global justice and security policies.
The delegation, composed of Rhizlane Ikhlef, Evan Chakir-Vergier, and Karina Crisan, delivered a plenary statement focused on two key messages.
The need to train justice professionals in mental health, in order to improve the support provided to young victims and their families, who often face long-term trauma.
The call to include school bullying in the International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (ICCS)— the UN-coordinated global crime classification — to enable harmonized measurement, cross-country comparison, and more effective global prevention strategies.
Through this intervention, United by schools reaffirmed that school violence is not an isolated issue, but rather a matter of social justice and public health, deserving full recognition within international legal and statistical frameworks.
